Krill Oil vs Cod Liver Oil Fact 4: Price

The cost of the daily recommended dose of krill oil and cod liver oil are about the same. When this article was written, WellWise found high quality krill oil for $17.99 per monthly supply (60 capsules). The $17.99 for krill oil translates into $0.60 per day. Cod liver oil is selling for $28.90 per 250 ml bottle on the internet. That’s good for 50 days based on the recommended daily dose of 5 ml. The cost per day of cod liver oil (based on the price on Carlson’s web site) is $0.58.

As already mentioned, smart shoppers can find discounts and coupons for both krill oil and cod liver oil. Nevertheless, the price of cod liver oil versus the price of krill oil doesn’t seem to be too different.

One additional aspect of cod liver oil is that the oil may oxidize in the bottle if it is not quickly used once the bottle has been opened. This limits the opportunity to get a discount from buying a super sized bottle.  Krill oil is typically encapsulated in 500 mg softgel capsules, and they usually come in 60 capsule bottles, which are good for a 30 day supply.
